Finding Your Dream "I Do" Dress

Finding Your Dream "I Do" Dress

The Right Dress Tells Your Story

When I’m selecting dresses for Trudys, I often ask myself, “what emotion does this dress represent.” Asking this question has held true over the years because the right dress will express emotion, which means much more than what a dress initially looks like.

There are wedding dresses that look stunning on the hanger but don’t always look and feel as stunning when you try them on. Then there are those dresses that look kind of boring on the hanger, but magically come alive when the right bride tries it on.

It is also true that the right dress not only tells a story, but it also helps express a bride’s personality of her celebration. The right wedding gown can even set the tone and theme for the entire wedding.

With some wedding gowns I see romance, with soft lace details, and sheer illusion, such as this wedding dress from Allure Bridals.

Other wedding dresses are light to the touch, free flowing, carefree, whimsical, and perfect for a boho bride like this one from Wilderly

Then there are those breathtaking gowns that represent an old Hollywood glamour where you can almost picture the starlets of yesteryear floating down the aisle like this wedding gown from Maggie Sottero.

One of the elements that brides today love are the subtle colors of the underlay of the dress, which shows through the lace. Soft rich colors like Antique Blush, Champagne, and Taupe will give most dresses a vintage look that really highlights the beauty of the ivory lace, but subtle enough not to overwhelm. Here’s a beautiful Calla Blanche wedding dress with a champagne undertone showing through the lace.

A quick side note: these colored linings appear even more subtle in natural outdoor lighting and can really add extra richness and detail quality in your wedding photography. Yes, you can tell I am a fan of color. Most of these gowns are available in the soft ivory as well. Give it a chance, you will love it.

This Badgley Mischka Blake wedding gown makes a statement and is perfect if you’re a bride who is a mix of modern, sexy, and romantic.

But if you’re a glamorous bride whose story and personality is a mix of modern and vintage glam, this gorgeously beaded wedding dress from Allure Couture, mixes the two and can help you tell your story.

Next, if you’re a couture bride and your story is sophisticated and sexy, then this couture wedding gown from Madeline Gardner's exclusive collection is stunning – with its accents of frosted pearls, beading and metallic lace appliqués – can help you illuminate your story as you walk down the aisle.

If you’re a a classic bride who likes to surprise people, this wedding gown by Eddy K does exactly that with its classic silhouette and unique intricate lace.

And finally, if you are that bride looking for that extra and the full bridal look, this is the gown that is fit for a queen.

How to Know Which Dress is Right for You

What this all boils down to is that the most important element is the emotion of beauty. What you feel when you see the dress on for the first time.

With years of experience in helping brides find the right wedding dress, here is my advice in how to know which dress is right for you. The true test is when you see yourself in the mirror for the first time. Do you feel absolutely beautiful in that moment, and you don’t want to take the dress off? Listen to your emotions.

At the end of the day, feeling beautiful is what every bride wants.  When you look – and more importantly – feel beautiful, everyone around you will see and feel it as well.

We love what we do here at Trudys. Come celebrate your special love story and let us help you find your dream ‘I Do’ wedding dress.
