Shopping for your wedding dress should feel exciting, empowering, and fun, and at Trudys Brides, we’re committed to making sure every plus-size bride feels celebrated, supported, and confident from the second she walks through our doors.
Plus-Size Bridal, Intentionally Curated
We proudly offer a wide variety of plus-size wedding gowns, typically ranging from size 16 up to size 32 depending on the designer. That range matters, because true size inclusivity isn’t just about having a plus-size option, it’s about carrying styles that are designed to flatter, support, and move with real bodies in a variety of sizes. Our stylists trend-watch constantly and bring in gowns that we know work well for plus-size brides, whether that means thoughtful structure, supportive bodices, flattering seam placement, comfortable fabrics, or silhouettes that highlight your favorite features. We also do our best to stock those gowns in a range of sizes, so you’re not stuck trying to “imagine” what something will look like based on a sample that isn’t even close to your size. You deserve a shopping experience where the dress possibilities feel real and accessible.

Trust Yourself… and Trust Your Stylist
The biggest thing we want you to know is this: you belong in the bridal chair exactly as you are. You do not need to shrink, “fix,” or change your body to deserve a beautiful wedding dress moment.
A big part of that is learning to trust your instincts and your comfort level during the process. If something doesn’t feel right, too tight, too itchy, too heavy, too restrictive, it’s okay to say so. Your stylist isn’t there to pressure you into a dress that looks good for five seconds in a mirror. We’re there to help you find a gown that feels good on your body and makes you feel like your most confident self.
And yes, sometimes a dress can look stunning but still feel “off.” That’s not you being picky. That’s you paying attention, and that’s a good thing.
About the Clips and Bands (Totally Normal!)
One thing that can catch brides off guard during a bridal appointment is the use of clips and bands. If you see a stylist clipping a dress closed in the back, please don’t panic, this is completely standard, and it’s one of the best tools we have to help every bride try on dresses comfortably.
Bridal samples are made to be tried on by many different bodies, so they rarely fit perfectly off the rack. Clips allow us to temporarily shape the gown to your body so you can see what the silhouette and structure are meant to look like. It helps you visualize things like:
- How the neckline sits
- Where the waistline hits
- How the skirt falls
- What the overall proportions look like
- How the bodice supports you
Clipping is not a sign that you won’t fit into your dream dress. It’s simply a styling tool that helps us bridge the gap between sample sizing and your actual ordered size.
What Happens When You Order Your Dress
Here’s the best part: your dress will arrive brand new in the size you choose. It won’t be a clipped sample. It will be your gown, ordered specifically for you, and it will feel completely different than a sample.
From there, alterations are what make the dress feel custom, like it was made for your body. Alterations fine-tune things like strap length, bust support, waist shaping, hem length, and any personal preferences you have for fit and comfort.

A Note About Shapewear: Don’t Force ItA lot of plus-size brides feel pressure to wear shapewear, but here’s our honest advice: don’t force yourself into shapewear or anything that makes you feel restricted. Shapewear can be a personal choice, but it should never feel like a requirement. If you don’t love the fit of a dress without shapewear, you’re not going to love it with shapewear. Shapewear can smooth, but it won’t magically change whether a gown feels supportive, flattering, or comfortable on you.
